Mashup: Tauranga

Mashup is a weekend event, delivering a unique learn-by-doing experience for senior secondary school students wanting to turn an idea into a business.

What is Mashup?

Mashup is a weekend event, delivering a unique learn-by-doing experience for senior secondary school students.

Designed to introduce and apply entrepreneurial and technical skills to solve problems in our community, teams of four students develop a product idea, create a business plan and build a prototype with the help of expert mentors over 48 hours. The inter-school challenge culminates to a final team pitch to a panel of judges.

Supported by generous sponsors, Mashup is a free event open to all secondary schools in the Bay of Plenty area.

How Mashup works for students

Mashup is open to all secondary school senior students with an interest in solving problems that affect them and their community.

It's your opportunity to form a team and to design a solution to this problem using technology. Mashup allows you and your friends to bring together all your different skills and interests, from business, computer, marketing, writing and design to work as a team in a safe and fun environment to build something that matters to you.

You will form one of 15 teams of 4 students from years 11, 12 and 13 and get to work with expert mentors from the business, technology, marketing and sales world. You will be introduced to the Lean Canvas and stepped through a process which encourages critical thinking, innovation, teamwork and learn how to be rigorous about finding a sustainable solution to a problem you are passionate about.
